What People Say

Most Liked

Customers can't stop talking about the homemade desserts, especially the lemon meringue and chocolate pies, which seem to steal the show. The friendly staff adds warmth to the dining experience, making every visitor feel welcome, just like family. The portions are generous, ensuring a hearty meal without breaking the bank—most dishes stay between $10 and $20. Guests appreciate the classic Southern dishes, from meatloaf to chicken pot pie, all prepared with fresh ingredients. The atmosphere remains cozy and historic, often buzzing with conversations, laughter, and the aroma of home-cooked meals.

Most Disliked

While the charm of Mrs. Rowe's Restaurant is loved by many, some visitors find that the parking can get tricky during peak hours. Sunday brunch, in particular, often sees 100% capacity, which means getting a table can be challenging without a reservation. A few diners have pointed out that on busier days, service may slow down, but this is usually balanced by the quality of food and ambiance. Some may also wish for a more diverse menu offering, as the focus remains on traditional Southern comfort food, possibly leaving those with different culinary cravings seeking additional options.

I stopped here often years ago when I was in the Staunton, Virginia area. The food was always delicious. Definitely taste like grandma’s cooking. The food here os much better than the chain restaurants. Also the prices are very reasonable it’s about 90 miles from us we will be back. So glad seeing they are still in business.

We've been going to Mrs Rowe's for many years, so I figured it's about time I provide my take :) This is a family restaurant that has a story all of its own ( the story is cool, so look it up :) The place has feel unique to the valley, offering traditional favorites, outstanding service and good prices - This particular pic is from my recent birthday, but they offer so much more I didn't get a pic of ( but should ) Want Some Food Suggestions? The club sandwich is a meal in itself, the fries are always crisp and delicious. Like burgers? two words : Mushroom + Swiss burger ( ok, 3 words ;) Huge real beef burger, giant size bun, tasty mushrooms, and a thick slice of real Swiss cheese ... I'm pretty sure the desserts are made on-site with real ingredients and the coffee is so good .. What else can I say? Go there yourself and expect a real slice of local history you can taste :)

January 22, 2025 - Recently moved to Virginia, so my wife and I stopped for lunch at the iconic . . . Mrs. Rowe’s Family Restaurant! 😃👍🏼 I enjoy local history, this place offers lots of stories and good comfort food! It’s not fancy, but my wife enjoyed her fresh Reuben w/sauerkraut sandwich & side warm apple slices. WOW, my stacked fresh “ hunks” of baked real Turkey breast, ham, B, L, T, and cheese ( Mike’s Club) sandwich was delicious 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼! My side was crinkle baked fries (the frozen type) oh well. Our server Erika was excellent, checking on us and answering questions! Thank you so much Erika😃👍🏼. I walked around, reading the articles posted on the walls . Then we met one of the family managers . . . Mary Lou DiGrassie who stopped at our table , a very nice lady who shared the history of this iconic restaurant. 1947 - Willard Rowe operated Perk’s Bar 1948 - Met , fell in love with Mildred 1953 - Willard & Mildred married, changed Perk’s to Rowe’s Steakhouse 1973 - Willard Rowe died, Mildred changed to Mrs. Rowe’s Family Restaurant *Michael DiGrassie (son)Managed restaurant *Interstates 81 & 64 built, added tourists in the early 1960’s *More family members joined the staff (Linda DiGrassie , Virginia Rowe LeMasurier) *Grandson Aaron DiGrassie is a trained Chef! His specialty is Bakery , desserts ! Special Note: As we finished our lunch, Mary Lou DiGrassie asked if we tried some pie for dessert? 😃We were too full for desserts. WOW, she packed up 1 slice of Lemon Meringue, and 1 slice of Apple Pie - FREE ! Which we enjoyed that night, very good ! Thank you so much! ( and Thanks to Chef Aaron 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼) Special Request : ( To Chef Aaron ) Please consider adding the Famous tradition of FRESH (Southern) FRIED CHICKEN 🐔 😃❤️👍🏼

We've been stopping here as we travel up and down I81 for close to 30 years. It changes but it doesn't change. The decor is homey, the food is delicious and very affordable, and stopping will continue to be out tradition any time we travel the interstate for as long as they're here. Try the chocolate meringue pie and thank me later.

Have always loved coming here, such great prices for a fresh meal. Went for breakfast this morning and had a wonderful experience. About $20 for my fiancee, son and I to eat a fresh cooked breakfast. Cannot beat that. And our waitress, Riley, was amazing. She was super sweet and consistently made sure we were doing good and had everything we needed to enjoy our meal 🙂

For the first time ever eating hedear I found the food very good, but just a little bit pricey for my budget. I guess it just depends on how much money you have to whether or not it is pricey to anyone else. The atmosphere was very pleasant and I kind of felt like I was in a fancy restaurant. The only thing that was a little bit disappointing was that the waitress never came back to ask if we wanted refills for our drinks. I'm not sure if it was just because they didn't have a lot of help or some other reason that could have been prevented. Overall, it is a very historical place and I would highly suggest trying it out if I were you

So I have lived here since 2005 and yesterday 9/3/2022 was the first time I had ever been here. My breakfast was amazing. French toast was perfect. The atmosphere is astounding and the employees were very friendly. It wasn’t busy and from what I gather the majority of the customers are regulars. There is beautiful homemade pies and baked goods to purchase. Overall great experience. I wish there was more breakfast variety but what they have is great.
